The future of mobility on 3,100 square meters

World premieres, test drives, and discussions about the mobility of the future: at the International Automobilausstellung (IAA) 2019 in Frankfurt, around 1,000 exhibitors displayed their products. At the trade fair grounds in Hall 3, Audi is presenting its new innovations and world premieres in a 3,100 square-meter exhibition area. Hildegard Wortmann, Head of Sales and Marketing, says enthusiastically: “We have the largest and most modern product portfolio among the premium competitors on the market.”

Marc Lichte, Head of Design at Audi, presents the Audi AI:TRAIL. The futuristic visionary vehicle is the final car of the AI concept car series and is supposed to function as an electric off-roader.

Audi AI:TRAIL concept car

The first world premiere is the visionary, futuristic Audi AI:TRAIL, which defines the market segment anew with autonomous driving, electric drive, and a revolutionary body design. The off-roader completes the collective appearance of the four visionary vehicles by the Audi design team at previous trade shows. The concept car’s glassed-in design is reminiscent of a helicopter with a panorama view.

Autonomous driving up to level 4

In the AI:TRAIL, the driver can choose between letting the car drive autonomously at level 4, i.e. on the highway, or driving himself. The roomy interior lets passengers sit in hanging seats during the trip, then bring them along when they reach their destination. So it’s a very futuristic car — only the drive is already familiar: Audi quattro.

Audi RS 7 Sportback
The second generation of the RS 7 Sportback will be available in Germany and other European countries as of the end of 2019.

Premiere of the RS 7 Sportback and Formula E racecar FE06

Unlike the Audi AI:TRAIL concept car, the new Audi RS 7 Sportback will be available in Germany and other European countries as of the end of 2019. “From a purely visual standpoint, the second generation of the RS 7 stands out with its body, which is 20 millimeters wider on each side, and a wide singleframe that is devoid of colored accents.” The coupe-like model puts out 600 HP and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.

Mild-hybrid system ensures efficiency

Despite the sporty engine, the mild-hybrid system (MHEV) and its 48-volt main electrical system ensure efficiency. The system’s belt starter generator can recuperate up to 12 kW of power and store the energy in a lithium-ion battery. If the driver takes his foot off the gas pedal while traveling between 55 and 160 km/h, the drive control module chooses one of two options. Depending on the driving situation and the Audi drive select settings, the RS 7 Sportback either recuperates power or coasts forward with the engine off. This allows the car to save up to 0.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers during everyday use.

Formula-E race car FE06

A sharpened visual appearance: Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt will be on the hunt for titles with the new Formula-E race car from November 22nd onwards.

Presentation of the Formula E racecar FE06

An additional Audi innovation at the IAA is the Formula E racecar FE06. The all-electric drive car is making its first public appearance with a new look. Many visible carbon fibers, as well as accentuated lines and a bright orange color, are instant eye-catchers. The FE06 will be driven by Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi, the Formula E drivers. They are already entering their sixth season together and, after finishing in second place in the previous season, they want to take first in the FE06. So the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team is especially excited about the coming season. The season begins on November 22 in the Saudi Arabian city of Ad Diriyah.
